Frequently Asked Questions

Bodega

  • Someone once said that when you don’t know what to cook, start by chopping an onion -

Well, that only works if you have onions.

When it comes to your bag contents, We’re selecting things that are user friendly to incorporate into meals, and things you are probably already using.

Onions, Spinach, maybe some Kale, easy Veggies (tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, & some seasonal surprises). Fruit selections will be more varied, (we aim to keep things exciting and seasonal).

Summertime is all about peaches for us, but we’re here for a good pear in early fall too. You’ll also receive a specialty bread and one of the things we’re most excited about; a small bunch of flowers.

  • Basics (to me, Maggie) are things that you can build into most meals. I’m always surprised by the combinations I can make, along with how I can elevate meals by including new and different produce.

We want to include basics in bags that will encourage and elevate your cooking. Eggs are great, but they become much more filling and fill out your nutritional intake better when you add peppers, onions, or spinach to them.

Fresh, well, is just what you would think - nothing frozen, everything coming -as much as I can source it-, from harvest to your table. (Remember to wash your produce!) Ps- did you know how many meals you can use red cabbage in, mindblowing!

  • During this initial three month Bodega trial - we are doing delivery within a 15 mile radius from downtown Elgin. (Of course, there is flexibility, but the standard boundary is 15 miles*).

*The goal is accessible fresh food, and if Bodega can partner with you to get that on your table, but you’re out of the radius, let’s chat and see if we can work that out.

  • Yes! You’ll get a notification prior to your delivery day to let you know your bag is on the way . When you sign up for a plan, you’ll be prompted to designate a delivery spot in case you’re not around… but beware of raccoons who are looking for fresh basics, too!

  • Your feedback is wildly important to me - Bodega is a baby idea and by partnering with us, you get the opportunity to help shape it into something great! During the trial, every bag will have a feedback form you can fill out quickly to give your thoughts. Beyond that, you can also reach out at any time.

  • You can cancel your Bodega subscription at any time by editing your plan in your account. No hard feelings if it doesn’t work for you.

Bodega subscriptions run month-to-month, so if you decide to cancel early, you’ll continue to keep your current plan until the end of the month you’re subscribed for. If you have any questions, please reach out at any time.

  • Allergies are a big deal to me! I will do my best to make sure that there is nothing in your bag that contains your allergen, which you can note in your initial subscription form. Due to sourcing facilities, I cannot eliminate the possibility of cross-contamination, or that an item could be included.

That being said, I am close to people with serious food allergies - so they are are near and dear to my heart and I understand the importance of being hyper vigilant of them.

  • The point of Bodega is that you have just the right amount of produce for a given week ( not too much and not too little) - so of course you can adjust the amount of what you receive.

Currently, we offer three different subscription plans that are all based on quantity, so if after a month, you’re ready to make a change - go ahead and play around with what works for you.

You can adjust the size of your subscription by reaching out to us or via your account page here.

  • Climbing mountains for a weekend? Visiting your family in Maine for a week? Working out of town? Perchance you’re pulling a Maggie and going to Colombia for two weeks.

If you’d like to pause your subscription for a week- simply reach out to us here and we’ll make sure no greens get wilty outside your door.
